Decision that Honors the Lord
(Making the Right Decisions is Crucial)
Text: Proverbs 3:5–6

Objective: that the brethren may Honor the Lord with the right decisions specially on most important matters

Intro:
Define: Decision, will, volition, choose, honor

I. Realize the Right DECISIONS BEGIN WITH THE FEAR OF THE LORD
- Proverbs 9:10
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom…”
The fear of the LORD is not terror—it is reverence, submission, and obedience.

Illustration (Foundation):
You don’t build a house starting with the roof. You start with the foundation. The fear of God is the foundation of every wise decision.

Biblical Example:
Joseph refused sin because he feared God, not because it was convenient.

Application:
If your decision dishonors God, it is already the wrong decision—no matter how good it feels.

II. PRAY for the Right Decision – God approved – best decision/s
- James 1:5
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God…”
- Philippians 4:6

Explanation:
Prayer is not informing God—it is aligning ourselves with God.

Illustration (Steering Wheel):
Prayer is the steering wheel of life. Without it, you’re moving—but not necessarily in the right direction.

Biblical Example:
Nehemiah prayed before acting, even in urgent situations.

Application:
Many people decide first, then pray later. God calls us to pray first, then decide.

III. Consider and Obey THE WORD OF GOD in the matter
- Psalm 119:105
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet…”

- Isaiah 8:20

Explanation:
God will never guide you contrary to His Word.

Illustration (Compass):
A compass always points north, no matter how lost you feel. Scripture always points to truth, even when emotions pull elsewhere.

Biblical Example:
Eve listened to reasoning instead of God’s Word—and paid the price.

Application:
If Scripture says “No,” the discussion is over. --- 100%

IV. SEEK GODLY COUNSEL from Godly people
- Proverbs 11:14
“…in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.”

Explanation:
God uses mature believers to protect us from blind spots.

Illustration (Side Mirrors):
Your car has mirrors not because you’re bad at driving—but because blind spots are real.

Biblical Example:
Rehoboam rejected wise counsel and split a kingdom.

Application:
If everyone godly around you is warning you—listen.

V. EXAMINE YOUR MOTIVES
- Proverbs 16:2
“…the LORD weigheth the spirits.”

- Jeremiah 17:9

Explanation:
God judges the “why” behind the “what.”

Illustration (Clear vs Dirty Glass):
Looking through dirty glass distorts everything. A sinful motive distorts even good decisions.

Biblical Example:
Balaam spoke truth but loved reward—his motive ruined him.

Application:
Ask: “Am I doing this to glorify God—or myself?”

VI. COUNT THE COST
- Luke 14:28
- Galatians 6:7

Explanation:
Faith is not impulsive; faith is obedient and thoughtful.

Illustration (Seed and Harvest):
You don’t plant corn and expect rice. Every decision plants a seed.

Biblical Example:
Esau traded a birthright for a meal—short-term desire, long-term loss.

Application:
Temporary pleasure is never worth permanent damage.

VII. MOVE FORWARD IN FAITH
- Proverbs 3:5–6

- Psalm 37:5

Explanation:
After prayer, Scripture, counsel, and obedience—step forward.

Illustration (Crossing a Bridge):
You don’t test a bridge by standing still. At some point, faith must walk.

Biblical Example:
Abraham obeyed without knowing the destination.

Application:
Delayed obedience is often disguised disobedience.

VIII. LOOK FOR GODLY FRUIT
- James 3:17
- Matthew 7:20

Explanation:
God-led decisions produce peace, righteousness, and spiritual growth.

Illustration (Tree and Fruit):
You don’t need to label a tree. Its fruit identifies it.

Application:
If a decision produces compromise, confusion, and carnality—it is not from God.

----
Life is a series of doors.
Some lead to blessing.
Some lead to bondage.

God has not left us without guidance.

REMEMBER:
Fear God. Pray. Check Scripture. Seek counsel. Examine motives. Count the cost. Act in faith. Look for fruit.

- Deuteronomy 30:19
“…choose life…”

Final guide questions to respond to:

What decision are you facing today?
Have you truly surrendered it to God?
Are you willing to obey—even if the answer is “No”?

Message/conclusion:
Let us Honor the Lord with the right decisions specially on most important matters. Seek His guidance also – it honors him specially when we end up better.
