Do what you can with what you got

Flexibility is an important trait to have. To roll with the punches and to be able to overcome adversity.

The weather is less favorable, the terrain is slick, there are rocks and roots, etc...

I like Arthur Ashe's quote, "Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can."

I'm also a fan of, "If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." - One that I think that I came up with on my own while talking about "mind over matter."

Your race DOESN'T CARE if it is hard because of the weather, course, x, y, z thing.

When we properly prepare physically and mentally for races, then we're able to become more flexible and resilient over time.

Running in this snow, slush, and ice is challenging... more challenging if I'm in a negative headspace and allowing it to ruin my run.

Instead, I manage my emotions and approach. I slow down where the trail is bad and I have fun.

This translates into our races.

Running in the snow reminds me of running in the sand. I've run two ultras where the majority of the course is sand.

Badwater Cape Fear 51.4 miler and Temptation 200k.

Those races crossed my mind. I know that at some point, all of this work in unfavorable conditions will pay off.

Do what you can with what you got.
