Iran protesters clash with security forces in Grand Bazaar

Protesters staged a sit-in at Tehran’s Grand Bazaar, prompting security forces to fire tear gas and disperse demonstrators as the market shut down.

The demonstration highlights ongoing unrest as Iran’s rial hit a record low, signaling continued economic and political tensions.

Violence linked to the protests has already killed at least 35 people and led to more than 1,200 detentions, according to activists.

Economic pressures are intensifying after the Central Bank cut subsidized dollar exchange rates, likely driving merchants to raise consumer prices, the Times Of Israel has reported.

Reformist President Masoud Pezeshkian acknowledged the government’s limited capacity to manage the crisis and called for broader involvement to address the situation.
