Hey everyone — it’s Leaflit! In today’s video I’m showing you how you can easily survive on just $63 a week food-wise — and I actually did it myself with a real shopping list. I’m not talking about bulk club deals, strange discount markets, or weird restrictions — everything was bought at Walmart, the same store most people have access to in the U.S. 🇺🇸
Everything I bought — like chicken, rice, tomatoes, eggs, etc. — you’ll find right on the shelf at any Walmart. With those basics, I showed how I can make meals like:
🍽️ Shoyu Chicken
🍽️ Chicken Adobo
🍽️ Chicken Fried Rice
🍽️ Tomato Egg Stir-Fry
…and more, using recipes you can find for free on YouTube or any major recipe site.
It’s not gourmet restaurant food — it’s simple, filling, nutritional meals that feed you for 7 days. Staples like a whole chicken, rice, eggs, and vegetables *stretch a long way if you plan smart and cook at home. You can even build a foundational list that stays right around $45-$50 a week for basic meals if you’re clever about your selections and mix and match ingredients.
Now let’s be clear: EBT/SNAP benefits are intended to help people afford groceries — and they’re a valuable safety net for tens of millions of Americans. But I do want to be critical of the argument that “a couple thousand dollars in benefits still isn’t enough to feed someone.” With smart meal planning, basic ingredients, and actual cooking (not eating out), you can feed yourself very affordably — and experienced budget shoppers prove it all the time with meals well under $50 each week.
That doesn’t mean everyone will want to live this way — cooking, prepping, and planning does take time — but food-wise it’s not some impossible math. You can eat well (and fill up) on a very modest weekly grocery total if you avoid pre-made meals and expensive takeout.
If you think more people should learn real food budgeting skills instead of complaining about prices without trying, hit Like, Subscribe, and ring. Then tell me in the comments: What’s YOUR go-to budget meal when you’re eating on a tight food budget?
