From Enslavement to Enlightenment Healing the Colonized Mind

People who act like the character in Django Unchained—loyal to their oppressor and hostile toward their own people—embody a deep form of internalized prejudice. These are individuals who, despite being Black in appearance, have absorbed and adopted the values of a society that denigrates Blackness, and they direct that prejudice inward. They reject Black culture, heritage, and community, sometimes even attacking those who strive for Black dignity and progress. This isn’t simply disagreement—it’s a betrayal rooted in a longing to fit into a world that historically has rejected them, so they distance themselves from their own people, celebrate whiteness, and perpetuate harm. This kind of self-hatred and alignment with oppressive norms wounds the community and stands in contrast to those who embrace their identity, uplift Blackness, and work for collective empowerment.
