Biscuits and Sausage Gravy (Step-by-Step), Comfort Food, Inspirational Thought
These golden, flaky biscuits smothered in a rich, peppery sausage gravy are absolutely delicious. While store-bought shortcuts exist, nothing compares to the magic of a meal made from scratch, which allows you to use wholesome ingredients and seasonings of your choice. HOMEMADE BISCUITS
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter or margarine, room temperature
3/4 cup milk
Mix the flour, baking powder and salt
Cut in butter with a fork until crumbly
Add milk and gently stir just until combined
Put the dough out onto a floured surface
Gently fold - press down - fold - press down Repeat 5-6 times
Cut the biscuits and place them in a prepared cast-iron skillet or baking dish
Let rest for 2-3 minutes before baking
Bake at 415 for 15 minutes
Butter the tops of the biscuits
Tips: After partially cutting in the butter, switch to a whisk to reach a crumbly consistency Avoid working the biscuit dough with your hands until it is on a floured surface and ready to fold and press.
SAUSAGE GRAVY
1 pound sausage
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
4 cups milk
salt and pepper or your choice of seasonings
Brown the sausage
Add the flour,
Stir for about 5 minutes so the grease will absorb the flour
Add milk while continuing to stir
Add seasonings
Keep stirring until the gravy is simmering and thickens
Place a biscuit on a plate (either whole, halved, or crumbled) and smother with sausage gravy. So delicious!
