Created in 1941 by Mort Weisinger and George Papp, Green Arrow can be seen, just in his costume alone, to be the direct fictional descendant of Robin Hood.
While Robin Hood, in most versions including Howard Pyle's, was not born of nobility, Oliver Queen, the man who would become the Green Arrow, created and was left great wealth which he used to fight crime much like his predecessor, Batman.
In his later iterations, most notably by Denny O'Neil, Oliver Queen took up more of Robin Hood's mantle by becoming the hero of the downtrodden on the streets of DC Comics. Losing his fortune prompted Queen to take from the rich to give to the poor, or at least, to use his abilities as a hero to help those in need who were the forgotten victims of crime, poverty and injustice.
