Selective Outrage When Justice Becomes a Popularity Contest
I’m about to drop some truth that a lot of people don’t want to hear, but it needs to be said. This is about Selective Outrage, and the hypocrisy around it is loud even when the people are silent. I’m talking specifically about Renee Good and the culture of choosing who’s worthy of outrage and who gets ignored, buried, or dismissed because it doesn’t fit a narrative or a political agenda.
Everybody wants to scream “justice” when it’s convenient. Everybody wants to march, post, hashtag, and shout when the person involved fits the image they’re trying to protect or the side they’re trying to win for. But where was that same energy for Molly Dennis? Where was the outrage when Isiah was discriminating, and a woman in leadership decided Molly didn’t belong? Where were the posts? Where were the rallies? Where were the voices that claim to stand for fairness and equality?
It was silent. Deafeningly silent.
And that silence tells the truth louder than any megaphone ever could.
This is why people are frustrated. This is why voters are disenfranchised. Because we’re being told this fight is Democrat vs Republican, Black vs White, man vs woman. But the real fight has always been Right vs Wrong. And too many people don’t want to admit that because it would mean holding their own side accountable.
Justice doesn’t change based on skin color. It doesn’t change based on gender. It doesn’t change because someone is politically connected, popular, or protected by the right last name or the right organization. If discrimination is wrong, it’s wrong every time. If abuse of power is wrong, it’s wrong no matter who’s doing it.
But what I see instead is people playing politics with pain. People deciding who deserves justice based on optics. A white woman gets ignored. A Black man gets defended no matter what. Or vice versa depending on the room, the audience, and the donations. That’s not justice—that’s manipulation.
And let me be clear: calling out selective outrage doesn’t mean I’m against Black people, women, or movements. It means I’m against hypocrisy. It means I’m against using real people as chess pieces in political games. It means I’m against leaders who talk about equality while practicing favoritism behind closed doors.
If we only speak up when it benefits our side, then we’re not fighting for justice—we’re fighting for control. And control dressed up as morality is still corruption.
This is why so many people feel politically homeless. This is why voters are tired. Because we’re being asked to choose teams instead of principles. We’re being pressured to stay quiet when our “side” is wrong and loud when the other side messes up.
I don’t care if it’s a white woman or a Black man. I don’t care if it’s a Democrat or a Republican. Wrong is wrong. And justice that depends on identity isn’t justice at all.
So before you shout for the next cause, ask yourself: would I be this loud if the roles were reversed? Or am I just participating in selective outrage?
Win or fail, freedom or jail.
Heaven or hell, wish me well.
Because I’d rather stand alone in truth than march in silence behind a lie.
