Control is a third-person action-adventure video game created by Finnish game studio Remedy Entertainment. The game revolves around the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC), a secret U.S. government agency tasked with containing and studying paranatural phenomena. As Jesse Faden, the Bureau's newest Director, players explore the Oldest House - the FBC's paranatural New York headquarters - and utilize powerful abilities in order to defeat a deadly enemy known only as the Hiss. Released in 2019, It is the first entry in Remedy Entertainment's Control franchise, and is part of the wider Remedy Connected Universe.

The Face of the Enemy:

Jesse begins by speaking with Emily Pope and confronting Dylan Faden in the Panopticon’s upper level, where he cryptically discusses the Bureau’s Prime Candidate Program and Jesse’s role within it. Traveling through Containment Logistics and the Security Sector, Jesse uncovers disturbing records tied to Ordinary, triggering the Hotline: Prime Candidates collectible and exploring the slanted containment chambers housing subjects like P7. By rotating the massive turntables, she accesses the Ordinary AWE site, battling escalating Hiss forces across transit corridors and power-dependent elevators. The search culminates at the Ordinary Dump Site and Dr. Darling’s mobile lab, where Jesse uncovers the truth about the Slide Projector Object of Power.

Finnish Tango:

Jesse resumes her search for the Slide Projector Object of Power in Dimensional Research, only to be diverted when Ahti communicates through cryptic visions and environmental distortions, drawing her away from conventional Bureau pathways. Following trails of red mist and corrupted mold growth, Jesse fights through hostile research zones before being pulled once again into the Oceanview Motel, where a sound-based puzzle involving radios and a lurking presence reinforces the motel’s ritualistic logic. Using the janitor’s keys, Jesse passes through Ahti’s door and continues following his visions across impossible architecture, floating platforms, and a destabilized elevator shaft that leads into an unmapped space labeled “Nowhere.”

Polaris:

Guided by Polaris, Jesse storms the Ashtray Maze, an ever-shifting corridor weaponized by the Oldest House, accompanied by the reality-warping music of Old Gods of Asgard, culminating in the Case Files: Ashtray and Cigarette and multiple key collectibles tied to Slidescape-36. Reaching Dimensional Research, Jesse locates the Slide Projector and solves a hidden Control Unit puzzle, uncovering recordings from Dr. Darling that reveal the true nature of Hedron and its role as a stabilizing force against the Hiss. Descending into the Hedron Chamber, Jesse destroys the corrupted HRA siphons, surviving multi-wave Hiss assaults that push every psychic ability—Launch, Levitate, Seize, and Shield—to their limits. With the siphons cleansed, Jesse ascends toward Polaris, triggering a pivotal cutscene that reframes the Board, Hedron, and Jesse’s connection to the resonance guiding her, and propels the story toward its final act.

Take Control:

Jesse awakens trapped in a looping, distorted reality where she is reduced to a powerless Bureau employee, performing menial tasks while the Hiss fully asserts control over the Oldest House. Breaking the cycle by reclaiming the Director’s mail, Jesse pushes through the illusion, enters Dr. Darling’s office, and passes once more through the Oceanview Motel, confronting a version of herself shaped by doubt and Bureau indoctrination. Reaching the corrupted Slide Projector, Jesse shuts it down and fights through the final Hiss resistance to reach Dylan Faden, severing the resonance that bound him and the Bureau to the invasion. The campaign concludes with major revelations about the Slide Projector, Polaris, and Jesse’s role as Director of the Federal Bureau of Control, rolling credits and cementing her command over the Oldest House.
