Don't Be An Orbiter

We hear a lot about the negative outcomes for men who act as "orbiters" with the women they find attractive, not getting anywhere romantically while continuing to provide utility value for little in return. But it occurs to me that this concept should have a broader scope of applicability when it comes to the people who assume that you should stick around, even while providing no reciprocity or tangible value to you in life.
