Supporting Kidney Function and Repair
Kidney Health Overview

Healthy kidneys filter toxins, regulate fluid and electrolyte balance, manage blood pressure, and activate vitamin D. Early support and repair strategies can slow the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD), preserve kidney function, and improve long-term outcomes.

^ASSESS – Don’t GUESS!
• Improvements in creatinine and eGFR often take months—consistency matters
• When kidney function improves, continue addressing the underlying root causes

Common Causes of Kidney Damage

Diabetes Mellitus
• Chronic hyperglycemia injures glomerular capillaries and accelerates fibrosis
• Correction: optimize glycemic control (HbA1c <5.7%), low-glycemic diet, ACE inhibitors or ARBs

Atherosclerosis & Elevated Blood Pressure
• Damages renal vasculature and reduces perfusion
• Correction: BP <130/80 mm Hg, nitric oxide–mediated vasodilation, antiplatelet agents if indicated

Inflammation & Oxidative Stress
• Persistent inflammation impairs repair and increases scarring
• Correction: anti-inflammatory diet, antioxidants (alpha-lipoic acid, N-acetylcysteine), weight management

Nephrotoxins & Medications
• NSAIDs, some antibiotics, and contrast agents can cause injury
• Correction: medication review, adequate hydration, safer alternatives
• Additional contributors: processed foods, cleaning chemicals, overcooked/smoked foods, indoor pools

Aging & Genetic Factors
• Progressive nephron loss and inherited risk
• Correction: early monitoring and lifestyle optimization

Targeted Nutrients & Therapies

• Camel Milk: antioxidant, glucose regulation, peptides – 400 ml/day (<2 cups)
• Tart Cherry Caps: antioxidant, BP support – 1,000 mg/day
• Blueberry Cap: antioxidant, insulin sensitivity – 500 mg/day
• Corn Silk Cap: antioxidant, lowers uric acid – 500 mg/day
• Black Cumin: antioxidant, anti-inflammatory – 500 mg/day
• ^Vitamin D₃: inflammation & BP support – 2,000–5,000 IU/day
• ^Vitamin K₂ (MK-7): vascular protection – 100–200 mcg/day
• Magnesium Glycinate: vascular relaxation – 100–200 mg twice daily
• NAC: kidney repair & detoxification – 600–1,200 mg twice daily
• Curcumin: anti-inflammatory – 1,000 mg twice daily
• Urolithin A: cellular repair – 500–1,000 mg/day
• Methylene Blue: energy & circulation – 1 mg/kg/day
⚠️ Caution with antidepressants & opioids

^Nitric Oxide Support

• Beetroot juice 250 mL/day or daily powder
• Enhances vasodilation and renal perfusion
• Fasting Saliva Test: https://amzn.to/4grFN29

Hyperbaric Air Therapy (HAT)

• Pressure: equivalent to 50 feet for 60 minutes
• Course: 10–20 sessions (3–5×/week)
• Stimulates blood flow and repair in hypoxic renal tissue

Lifestyle & Recovery Therapies

Exercise
• Aerobic: 150 min/week | Resistance: 2×/week
• Benefits: improved insulin sensitivity, BP, endogenous nitric oxide

Sauna Therapy
• 60–80°C (140–170°F), 15–20 min, 2–3×/week
• Heat-shock proteins, circulation, detox support

Red Light & Near-Infrared Photobiomodulation (PBM)

Mechanisms
• Mitochondrial ATP stimulation
• Reduced TNF-α and IL-6 inflammation
• Improved microcirculation via nitric oxide
• Oxidative stress modulation

Evidence
• Animal studies: reduced fibrosis, preserved GFR
• Human reports: improved comfort and quality of life in CKD

Protocol
• Wavelength: Red 600–700 nm | NIR 800–1,100 nm
• Target: bilateral lower back over kidneys
• Duration: 10–20 min/session
• Frequency: 3–5×/week for 4–8 weeks
• Precautions: avoid active malignancy at site, photosensitizers; hydrate

Integration Strategy

Layer nutrition, supplements, and PBM early with HAT, exercise, and sauna

Maintain tight glucose and blood-pressure control

Supplement strategically to amplify circulation and inflammation control

^Monitor labs (eGFR, creatinine, urine albumin) every 3–6 months
