ALLATRA at COP30: Presenting scientific data on climate challenges and micro- & nanoplastics threats

The ALLATRA International Public Movement participated in the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30), held in Belém, Brazil. The conference brought together representatives from governments, the scientific community, civil society, and international organizations to discuss pressing climate and environmental issues.

Holding COP30 in Brazil highlighted the importance of the Amazon region for the global climate while drawing attention to environmental risks associated with the loss of forest ecosystems and environmental pollution.

During the conference, the ALLATRA delegation took part in official events, expert discussions, and working meetings. The ALLATRA Global Research Center presented scientific findings on the distribution of micro- and nanoplastics, their impact on natural processes, and potential consequences for human health. The report addressed how nanoplastics accumulate in the environment, penetrate living organisms, and contribute to chronic inflammatory processes and other health disturbances.

The unique information presented by ALLATRA experts focused on the ability of micro- and nanoplastics to accumulate electrostatic charge. This property enables plastic particles to interfere with biological mechanisms at the molecular level, leading to long-term consequences for human health.

The coverage reflects scientific presentations, meetings with government and international representatives, engagement with environmental initiatives and Indigenous communities of the Amazon, as well as discussions on ocean plastic pollution.

Participation in COP30 demonstrated that an effective response to current climate and environmental challenges requires the combined efforts of science, policy, and civil society, alongside coordinated international action.
