He began his career in the film industry working in the mailroom at 20th Century Fox and later as a production assistant on the film "Kelly's Heroes" (1970) in Yugoslavia. His directorial debut came with the low-budget film "Schlock" (1973), a satirical monster movie that showcased his unique style.
