There’s a lot of jokes, memes, and social media comparison going on — including some saying her death is the same as what happened to Charlie Kirk — so I’m here to break down why those comparisons are completely off base and why context matters.

Here’s what we know about the Minneapolis incident: a 37-year-old woman, Renee Nicole Good, was shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis during an enforcement operation. Federal officials claimed the officer fired in self-defense after she attempted to drive her vehicle toward agents, though local leaders and some witnesses dispute details of the narrative.

Let’s be real about what happened here. This was not a case of someone being targeted for their speech or presence, like what happened with Charlie Kirk — who was shot and killed while sitting and talking. The events, motives, and circumstances are fundamentally different, and equating them distorts both tragedies. Many discussions online are trying to equate them politically, but the facts and context are not the same.

I’m critical of the woman’s actions. Regardless of broader political issues, driving a vehicle toward law enforcement in a heated situation can cause a split-second decision by an officer to protect themselves. Whether one agrees or disagrees with training or policy, choosing to escalate by resisting and attempting to flee contributes to the outcome.

I’m also critical of detractors who defend her behavior as if it were harmless or comparable to Charlie Kirk’s situation. That’s not a fair comparison. Charlie was shot for being targeted in a different context, while this incident involves a moving vehicle and law enforcement perceiving a threat. The circumstances and justification standards are not the same.

I’m supportive of law enforcement and of Charlie Kirk. Officers have to make split-second decisions in high-pressure situations, and while every use of force should be scrutinized, jumping to misinformed comparisons or excuses doesn’t help anyone. And when it comes to Charlie Kirk — he was a public figure unjustly killed in a distinct incident, and that deserves respect and clarity without twisting the narrative for political points.
