“Iran unrest: executions, mass casualties, and ongoing protests continue”

Update on Iran:

The execution of Erfan Soltani has been postponed. Authorities informed his family that the sentence has been delayed with no new date given.

The death toll is rising: HRANA updated the numbers — at least 2,571 dead, including increases in the last few days. Iran International estimates peak losses on January 8–9 at a minimum of 12,000 based on medical data and sources. Amnesty and the UN continue to document shootings in provinces, especially Alborz. Surgeons in Tehran report a shift from rubber bullets to automatic fire at night, overcrowded hospitals, and "military-type" injuries.

Iran’s airspace is closed to all flights.

Protests continue (Tehran and other cities). Social media videos show destroyed markets, blocked streets, and heavily armed security forces. Starlink is partially working, helping people bypass the blackout.

Overall picture: repression continues — arrests over 18,000, internet shut down, security forces on the streets. The situation remains extremely unstable.
