Two Prophets

This is an account of two prophets. The first prophet has been sent by the LORD to speak to Jeroboam the first king of the northern kingdom of Israel. After Solomon died, ten of the tribes of Israel were taken from his son, Rehoboam, and Jeroboam was made king by God of those ten tribes. Rehoboam became the king of Judah and reigned in Jerusalem. God had promised David that he would always have a son on the throne, and God promised Jeroboam that if Jeroboam followed the LORD, he and his line would prosper. However, when Jeroboam took over, he worried that the Israelites would leave him when they were to go to Jerusalem for the yearly Feasts. He did not believe God’s promises and decided to create two golden calves for the people to worship, rather than travel to Jerusalem to worship the LORD. Jeroboam doubled the problem that the Israelites had done at the beginning of the exodus when Aaron made one golden calf for the people to worship.
