Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh are developing robot “dogs” to assist in dangerous situations where humans cannot safely operate.

One such robot, named Spotless, can search for casualties, detect hazards like toxic gas, and assess injuries and heart rates.

Kimberly Elenberg, a project scientist, demonstrated how Spotless speeds up search-and-rescue operations by providing critical information before medics arrive.

The project highlights Pittsburgh’s growing role as a tech hub, with significant Defense Department investment in AI and robotics research, CBS News has reported.

After completing tasks, Spotless is recharged with a battery, rather than a traditional dog treat.
