A massive forest fire is burning in the central-south Chile, affecting the Bío Bío and Nüble regions, including areas around the city of Concepción. The fires have intensified rapidly due to extremely high temperatures, strong winds, and prolonged drought. Dozens of active fires are active in the region. The total burned area is approximately 8,500 hectares. The most severe damage was recorded in the towns of Penco, Lirquén, and several suburbs of Concepción. In these areas, the fire destroyed residential neighborhoods, outbuildings, and infrastructure. According to preliminary reports, at least 250 homes, including entire residential areas, have burned. More than 50,000 people have been evacuated, as well as patients and staff at the local hospital. At present, 16 people have died, and dozens have suffered burns and smoke inhalation. A state of emergency has been declared.
