Alan awakens inside Cauldron Lake Lodge, where Dr. Emil Hartman claims Alan suffered a psychotic break after Alice’s “death,” but Alan gradually uncovers proof that Hartman fabricated evidence and collaborated with Agent Nightingale and the kidnapper. When the Dark Presence overruns the lodge, Alan escapes through the grounds and hedge maze, battling Taken and a possessed orderly before fleeing with Barry Wheeler toward the Anderson farm. Along the way, Alan pieces together the truth: Cauldron Lake makes art real, the Dark Presence manipulates creators, and Alice is still alive—trapped beneath the lake. The episode culminates at the Anderson farm with the legendary stage defense set to “Children of the Elder God,” followed by a drunken vision where Alan relives the missing week, confronts Barbara Jagger, and learns that he wrote Departure under coercion, awakening back in the present with Nightingale holding him at gunpoint.

Episode 5 - The Clicker:

Alan escapes custody at the Bright Falls Sheriff’s Station when the Dark Presence abducts Agent Nightingale, forcing Sheriff Sarah Breaker to finally trust him as the town collapses into chaos during Deerfest. Fighting through the streets of Bright Falls alongside Sarah—dodging possessed vehicles, Taken hordes, and large-scale ambushes; Alan pushes toward the Bright Falls Light and Power plant in search of Cynthia Weaver, the last guardian of the town’s secrets. At the power station, Cynthia reveals the truth about Thomas Zane, Barbara Jagger, and Cauldron Lake’s ability to make art real, sending Alan through deadly transformer yards and the dam to reach the Well-Lit Room. The episode culminates in a desperate escape across the Bright Falls Dam, where Alan finally recovers the Clicker, a childhood talisman tied to his mother—revealing it as the key object capable of rewriting the story and fighting back against the darkness itself.
