THE DIASPORA STANDS WITH IBRAHIM TRAORÉ

In January 2026, authorities across Burkina Faso claimed to have thwarted a new coup attempt. Addressing the sovereign nation, Mahamadou Sana, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Security, stated that the plan, which, according to him, aimed “to destabilise the country through targeted assassinations”, included both civilian and military officials. According to Burkina Faso’s Minister of Security, the alleged plan aimed to kill Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

“We will make available to the media the confession videos taken from the hearings of some key actors,” he said.

For security reasons, Sana identified only one main primary suspect, Damiba, who he claimed was responsible for organising the attempted coup via enlisting both troops and civilians. 

During an interview uploaded on the YouTube channel titled “Sell Afrika to Africans”, founder of Sovereign Media Ahmad Kaballo highlighted how “every coup attempt that’s foiled just strengthens the revolution. Strengthens people’s resolve…helped to consolidate the support base around Ibrahim Traoré.”

Since coming into power, regional and Western powers have systematically purported misinformation in an attempt to smear the work produced by Ibrahim Traoré, who continues to address the role played by Western powers, specifically corporations exploiting his country. 

This attempted coup is regarded as the latest in a series of failed attempts to oust Ibrahim Traoré from power. 

The video footage above is dated from 2025 and was captured during a pro-Ibrahim Traoré demonstration organised by different diasporic communities to show their solidarity with the leader of Burkina Faso in London, England. Throughout the demonstration, participants were asked, “What is their message to Ibrahim Traoré?” as well as “What is your message to Emmanuel Macron?” 

It is evidently clear that the people will continue to support Captain Traoré.
