Big Trouble for Minnesota Officials!

On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Justice served six grand jury subpoenas to Minnesota government officials as part of a federal investigation into alleged obstruction of immigration enforcement in the Twin Cities. Federal prosecutors delivered subpoenas seeking records and communications from Governor Tim Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her, and county officials in Ramsey and Hennepin counties.

The subpoenas stem from an inquiry into whether state and local leaders impeded or interfered with federal immigration agents, including during Operation Metro Surge, a large Department of Homeland Security enforcement push in Minneapolis–St. Paul. Federal filings show the operation has involved thousands of immigration agents and led to the arrest of more than 10,000 people alleged to be in the country illegally.
