Richard Amerling was born and raised in New York City. He graduated from Stuyvesant High School and the City College of New York. Dr. Amerling studied medicine at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium, graduating with honours in 1981. He completed a medical residency at the New York Hospital Queens and a nephrology fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He holds lifetime certification in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.

Richard Amerling worked for 26 years as an academic nephrologist at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, achieving the rank of Associate Professor of Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. In 2016 he accepted a position as Professor of Clinical Skills at St. George’s University in Grenada and taught there through 2021.

From April-August 2020 Richard volunteered as a nephrologist at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, helping deal with the first wave of acute Covid cases. In July, 2021, he was placed on administrative leave at St. George’s University for refusing an experimental treatment. This became permanent as of January 2022.

Richard served as Associate Medical Director for America’s Frontline Doctors from August 2021-February, 2022, then in May 2022 he co-founded The Wellness Company, and served as its Chief Academic Officer through August 2023.

He then joined the Executive Committee of The Body Healthcare and is co-chair of the Education Committee.

In September 2024, Richard was appointed Academic Director of GoldCare.

Richard is Past President of the Association of American Physicians. He is a strong advocate of the low carbohydrate, high saturated fat diet to help reverse disease and restore health. He has written and lectured for many years on the harms of Evidence-Based Medicine and clinical practice guidelines.

Richard currently resides in St. Augustine, Florida, where he enjoys sailing, cycling, tennis, and bird watching. He is an accomplished amateur bassist/guitarist and is a founding member of The Kidney Stones.
