The Right is WRONG: Lesser Evil Is Still Empire

Out of all the major powers in the world, I’d rather partner with the United States than the European Union.
Not because the US is good but because it’s more constrained.
Checks, balances, internal dissent. Power that can still be resisted.
But here’s where the right gets it wrong:
being the lesser evil doesn’t grant moral permission.
In a hypothetical conflict over Greenland, choosing the US over the EU does not erase the rights of the Inuit who actually live there.
As Māori, I recognise this pattern immediately powerful states deciding what’s “best” for indigenous people, then calling it realism.
This isn’t anti-American.
It’s anti-shortcut morality.
The right is wrong to think “better” automatically means “right.”
