Something Is Happening Under California Right Now...

Something unusual is happening beneath California. January 2026: more than 350 earthquakes strike the Coachella Valley in just 72 hours, beginning with a magnitude 4.9 that rattled Southern California from Palm Springs to San Diego. But this is not an isolated event. Earthquake swarms are erupting simultaneously across multiple fault systems, from Holtville near the Mexican border to Johannesburg in the Mojave Desert to a historically quiet section near Willits in Northern California.

A magnitude 6.0 strikes off the Oregon coast. Aftershocks continue from the December 2024 magnitude 7.0 at the Mendocino Triple Junction, the largest earthquake in that region in 20 years. Scientists calculate that stress has been transferred to the northern San Andreas Fault. Meanwhile, monitoring stations detect anomalous electromagnetic signals, readings that some researchers associate with pre-earthquake phenomena.

The southern San Andreas Fault has not produced a major earthquake in more than 300 years. The Hayward Fault beneath the Bay Area has been quiet for 156 years against an average recurrence of 140. The Cascadia Subduction Zone last ruptured in 1700. By historical standards, California's major faults are overdue.
