The Black Samurai’s story ends, and everything inside me coils tighter and tighter—anger, grief, confusion. Every death he caused, every Igan life he cut down, every scream that echoed in our burning village… all of it surges through my veins. He killed Sandayu. He helped destroy everything I loved. My fingers tighten around my katana. I raise the blade to sever his head from his shoulders.

He does not move. He kneels with the stillness of stone, ready for death. A true samurai, embracing the end without fear. I should feel triumph. Instead, my chest trembles with something I cannot name.

Then Junjiro appears—running, shouting for me to stop.

His voice cuts through the storm inside me like a blade. He tells me that if I call Yasuke a monster… then I must call myself a monster too. I freeze. Junjiro has never spoken to me like this. Never looked at me with such painful honesty.

And then—he tells me everything.

He returned to Katano to burn his past. To destroy every scrap of evidence of who he is. Because he hates his father. Because he cannot forget him. Because memory itself is a wound he cannot close.

His father was Ido Yoshihiro.

The first Onryo I ever killed.

The world tilts beneath my feet. My throat closes. I nearly drop my sword as the truth crushes me under its weight. Onryo. Enemy. Mask. Demon. Never once did I imagine they had children. Lives. Families that mourned them. That suffered as I suffered.

I took Junjiro’s father from him… and he saved me anyway.

But his story is not finished. He tells me how he wanted to kill me when he found me near death—how he carried that rage like a poison. Sorin told him to choose mercy. To let something else guide him. He painted me first as a monster, a demon… but painting after painting, stroke after stroke, his hatred drained away. Until he saw me as a person. A friend. Family.

Every word breaks something in me that I did not know was still intact.

Then he says the words that stop my heart:

“If Yasuke must die for what he did to your people… then hand me your sword next. I must die too.”

I sheathe my katana. My hands tremble. My spirit collapses. I fall to my knees before him. For the first time in years, I feel small. Human. Shattered.

I beg him—beg—for forgiveness.

He looks down at me, calm and gentle, and says only, “I already did.”

Those words destroy the last of my hatred. The last of the storm inside me. The last of the armor I’ve worn since the night my father died. The tears come before I can stop them.

I turn to Yasuke. He watches in silence, not as an enemy, but as someone carrying his own grief and shame. The hatred I felt toward him dissolves into something quieter—pain still, but also understanding. Maybe even peace.

We agree to walk together from this moment on. To follow the same path, bound not by vengeance, but by purpose. We will take an oath—but not here, not in this place of ashes and ghosts.

We must return home. And there, as shinobi and warrior, we will swear ourselves to the fight ahead.
