"Always Ready to Answer"
(Homework for Every Soul-winner)

Text: 1 Peter 3:15–16

Objective: that the brethren may ready to win souls by doing our home work, that is to study how to answer, then execute with full assurance of God’s guidance

Intro:
instead of being intimidated, believers are commanded to be ready — not merely ready to defend themselves, but ready to explain Christ and the hope within them.

I. The Preparation: “Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts”
Before we answer others, Christ must be set apart as Lord within us.

A. Sanctifying Christ personally
Christ must have the throne, not merely a place.
Matthew 6:33, Colossians 3:1–2, Joshua 24:15, Proverbs 3:5–6
A divided heart produces a weak testimony.

B. Sanctifying Christ devotionally
Through the Word:
Psalm 119:11 , Colossians 3:16 , 2 Timothy 2:15 ,
Through prayer:
Psalm 5:3, Luke 18:1, 1 Thessalonians 5:17
One cannot answer well without feeding well.

C. Sanctifying Christ morally
A holy life strengthens a spoken answer.
1 Peter 1:16 — “Be ye holy…” Titus 2:10 , Philippians 2:15

II. The Presentation: “Be ready always to give an answer”
“to give an answer”— a reasoned defense, not heated arguing.

A. The Command to be Ready
“Ready always” implies:
Preparedness: 2 Timothy 4:2 — “Be instant in season, out of season…”
Urgency: John 4:35 — “Lift up your eyes… the fields… white…”
Openness: Colossians 4:3 — “A door of utterance…”

B. The Content of our Answer: “a reason of the hope”
Christianity is not vague optimism; it is hope grounded in facts:
The resurrection: 1 Peter 1:3 — “begotten… unto a lively hope by the resurrection…”
The promises of God: 2 Corinthians 1:20
The return of Christ: Titus 2:13 — “Looking for that blessed hope…”
Our salvation: Romans 5:1–2; Hebrews 6:19
Christian hope is rooted in history and guaranteed by covenant.

C. The Audience: “to every man that asketh”
Not only philosophers, but neighbors.
Mark 5:19 — “Tell… what great things the Lord hath done…”
John 9:25 — “One thing I know…”
Acts 1:8 — Witnesses both near and far.
God places curious sinners in our path.

III. The Posture: “with meekness and fear”
Truth can be harmed by the wrong tone.

A. Meekness Toward the Hearer
Meekness is strength under control.
2 Timothy 2:24–25 — “in meekness instructing…”
Titus 3:2 — “shewing all meekness…”
Proverbs 15:1 — “A soft answer turneth away wrath…”
The gospel is never helped by pride.
B. Fear Toward God
Fear here means reverence — knowing we speak for God.
2 Corinthians 5:11 — “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord…”
Proverbs 1:7 — “The fear of the LORD is the beginning…”
1 Thessalonians 2:4 — “entrusted with the gospel…”

We handle eternal truths with holy trembling.

IV. The Proof: “Having a good conscience”
Our testimony must match our tongue.
A. Character validates our message
Philippians 1:27 — “Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel…”
Matthew 5:16 — “Let your light so shine…”
1 Timothy 4:12 — “be thou an example…”
B. A clean conscience gives boldness
Acts 23:1, Hebrews 10:22
Proverbs 28:1 — “The righteous are bold as a lion…”
Sin robs confidence; purity gives courage.

V. The Result: A Shamefaced Accuser
“…they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.”

The early church won many persecutors not by counterattacks, but by quiet holiness.

Daniel 6:4 — No fault except concerning God.
1 Peter 2:12 — “they may… glorify God in the day of visitation…”
Romans 12:20–21 — “overcome evil with good.”
Matthew 5:44–45 — Love your enemies.

• The world cannot ignore consistent Christians.

Finale:
To be “always ready to answer” means:
Christ enthroned in the heart
Knowledge ready on the tongue
Gentleness in the delivery
Holiness in the life

— not merely defending Christianity, but displaying Christ.

Illustration:

A lighthouse does not debate with the storm — it simply shines. Ships adjust. In a world of doctrinal fog and moral storms, Christians shine when they can explain their hope and embody it.

Do I know what I believe? (doctrine)
Do I live what I believe? (testimony)
Do I share what I believe? (witness)

Unbelievers ask because they see something different.
Do they see hope in you? If not, Christ offers that hope today.

Message/conclusion:
Let us be ready to win souls by doing our home work, that is to study how to answer, then execute with full assurance of God’s guidance
