I discussed the new changes in the Chinese military's leadership at the hands of Xi Jinping with Captain James Fanell in particular, whether it bespeaks a rising prospect of Xi consolidating power and wielding it to attack Taiwan, rather than, as some believe, evidence of his weakness and a diminished prospect of such an attack. We also talked about the new Trump administration national defense strategy, which has reduced the Chinese Communist Party from our greatest, most significant strategic competitor to, say nothing of mortal enemy, to a nation with whom we can safely pursue a “decent peace” through diplomacy in the Indo-Pacific region.
