A New Deal For Sanity

When governments cease to function, the American Declaration of Independence asserts that it is the responsibility of citizens, each and all, to participate in self-government, and to provide for the General Welfare of themselves and their posterity. As independent presidential candidate and long-time LaRouche associate Diane Sare has made clear in a recent statement: “CRAZY appears to have become the new normal.” Acquiescence to insanity can and must be immediately reversed, through using prescience, thought and imagination to intervene into an increasingly unstable situation in the United States and elsewhere.

The U.S. population, in the aftermath of recent events in Minnesota, including some Republicans who rightfully fear their seats being taken away in the midterm elections, are speaking out against the violent violations of basic, constitutionally-guaranteed rights. They, however, must look much deeper. They must look at Minnesota through the lens of the international strategic situation. The abolition of international law, in favor of the so-called principle that ‘might makes right’—applied in Venezuela, Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, and other nations—may now be reapplied in Iran, following up last year's U.S. ‘Operation Midnight Hammer,’ which targeted Iranian nuclear facilities.

The possibility for a preemptive strike on Iran was mooted yesterday by U.S. Secretary of State Marco “Narco” Rubio in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Venezuela. Rubio said bluntly, “I think it's wise and prudent to have a force posture within the region that could respond and potentially, not necessarily what's going to happen, but if necessary, preemptively prevent the attack against thousands of American servicemen and other facilities in the region and our allies.” Contrast that Straussian outlook to what has been put on the table by Schiller Institute Chairwoman Helga Zepp-LaRouche, in a new call for a “civil society initiative.”

”This deplorable condition of current affairs requires an urgent intervention, both by institutions, and the world’s people of good will. We therefore propose the creation of a World Civil Society Initiative, to work together with religious organizations and other civil groups, and the UN as a central partner, in order to uphold the UN Charter and the 1954 Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence…” Zepp-LaRouche calls for “The urgent convening of an international conference to discuss the principles for a New International Security and Development Architecture, and the creation of teams to work on aspects of the reconstruction of the world system.” This is the content, method and spirit of self-government which must return to America now, in its 250th year.
