Hey friends — it’s Leaflit! In this video I’m reacting to Brandon Herrar’s video “Did ICE Just Murder Someone for Carrying a Gun?” — a deep-dive on the controversial Minneapolis shooting of Alex Pretti, which has become one of the most widely debated law-enforcement incidents in recent U.S. news.

This one is really complicated. On the one hand, officials initially said Pretti approached agents with a handgun and reacted violently, justifying defensive shots. On the other hand, multiple videos and independent analyses show footage where Pretti appears to be unarmed or holding only a phone in the moments before he was shot, and the “gun” was pulled from his waistband after he was already on the ground.

Here’s the situation as it’s emerged so far:

Pretti was legally carrying a firearm with a permit. DHS sources initially said he had a gun and reacted violently during the encounter.
But multiple videos show contradictory details. Some footage shows him holding only a phone near his hands before he is wrestled to the ground and sprayed with a chemical agent, and a gun being removed from his waistband while he’s pinned — leading some analysts to say there is no evidence he ever brandished or pointed the weapon.
New clips from an unrelated altercation days earlier show him shouting at agents and even kicking a vehicle, though even that video does not show him using the gun.
Independent groups like Human Rights Watch noted that videos and witness testimony contradict the idea that he posed a lethal threat that would justify deadly force under international standards.

This doesn’t make the question simple. Carrying a gun can be legally normal in many U.S. states, especially if you have a permit, and many people do so without any intent to use it aggressively. But going into a chaotic enforcement scene does raise real questions about risk and perception — from both sides.

In my reaction, I break down:

What the available footage actually shows vs. what officials initially claimed.
Why this has become such a heated debate nationally.
Why simply saying “he had a gun” isn’t enough to explain what happened.
Why we should demand transparent, full evidence — not rushed conclusions or politicized narratives.
