The "Year of the Linux Desktop" has been a running joke in the tech community for over 20 years. Every year, Linux enthusiasts claim "this is the year Linux will finally take over Windows." It never happens. And here's why it never will.

As a GNU/Linux user myself, I believe Linux is objectively better than Windows in almost every technical aspect. It's free, open source, more secure, more private, fully customizable, and runs faster on older hardware. Modern distributions like Linux Mint, Zorin OS, and Ubuntu are just as easy to use as Windows 10 or Windows 11. The "Linux is hard" stereotype died around 2015.

So why does Windows still dominate the desktop operating system market share in 2026?

Because technical superiority doesn't win against human behavior.

In this video, I break down the real reasons why Windows keeps winning despite being inferior:

1. Windows comes pre-installed on 95% of PCs sold worldwide
2. Familiarity bias—everyone has used Windows in schools, workplaces, and homes

This isn't Linux bashing. This is reality. I use Linux daily. I promote open source software. But I've accepted that mass desktop adoption won't happen in 2026, 2030, or beyond.

If you're a Windows user curious about Linux, try it with a live USB. If you're a Linux user, stop expecting the world to change and focus on making Linux better for those who choose it.
