The screenplay and #ParamountPictures draws inspiration from the historical events and literary works. The film, directed by #WalterHill is adapted from #SolYurick 's 1965 novel of the same name, which itself was loosely based on #XenophonsAnabisis, an past account of Greek Mercenaries fighting their way through Persia. While the motion picture depicts gang violence in New York City, it's a fictional narrative and not a documentary or factual account. The film and the novel it's based on, however, were influenced by the experiences of Sol Yurick as a New York City welfare department worker, which gave him insight into the realities of street gangs.

"Stylistic, atmospheric and fully deserving of it's 'cult-film' status."
#CentristPhilosopher

"Critics Consensus: As violent as it is stylish, The Warriors is a thrilling piece of pulp filmmaking."
#rottentomatoes

"Both geographically and thematically, Hill's off-the-wall urban odyssey is the all-encompassing #BigApple movie."
#theguardian

"The Warriors is a wonderful film that has something for everyone."
#CerealAtMidnight

"Despite a lackluster box office performance and negative critical reviews, the film has developed a massive cult following and was even named in the #NewYorkTimes 'Best 1000 Movies Ever Made'.
#TheScarlet

"A classic in its own right"
#imdb

"In 1979, director Walter Hill and producer #LawrenceGordon took an obscure novel and crafted it into a #CultClassic unlike any other. With a low budget and short production time, they took audiences to the tough streets of a New York filled with colorfully-costumed gangs over the course of one violent, action-packed night."
#FunksHouseOfGeekery

"The book really made you understand the gang culture from back in the sixties, and also the dicey home situations of some of the characters. The gang was a real family for these young adults/teenagers. It discussed the importance of dressing alike with certain insignias and being proud of it. There was more violence in the book. They could have never translated some of the violent or sexual scenes that took place in the book to the movie because there would have been no compassion or likability towards The Warriors members. When the book proper ends, Sol Yurick has a lengthy end chapter talking about how he came to write the book and what he thought about the movie. His perspectives were written twenty years after the film, which by then was already a cult-classic."

"The Warriors is a cult classic movie and one I saw long after its release. I was home sick from school and TBS used to play older movies and I caught the glory that is The Warriors. From the at points in the early 90's The warriors was a movie I often spoke of but was impossible to watch until DVDs were released. It is amazing to me that movies were able to find a cult following. #RockstarGames released a #Playstation game based on the movie and that was a huge surprise. Then, #FunkoGames surprised everyone by releasing a board game in 2022!"

"The Warriors is an excellent example of minimalist story telling..."
#HomeTheaterForum

"From its powerhouse opening, in which all gangs of New York in tribal splendor in #VanCourtlandtPark to the last ditch stand in dilapidated #ConeyIsland, the director has elevated his story of a novice gang onb the run into a heroic epic of #Arthurian dimensions..."
#timeout

"The Warriors is a fascinating slice of cult entertainment"
#TheMovieBlog

"Not only is it a compelling thriller that is refreshingly different from a typical action movie, but it also has a wonderfully distinctive atmosphere and a high level of visual flair too. It's a timelessly cool classic; I just wish that I'd watched this when I was a teenager, since I'd have probably ofund it even more amazing back then."

"Virtually everyone is familiar with the famous lines of the film 'Can you dig it?!' and 'Warriors!! Come out to play-ay!!' This movie is dangerous. It's seedy, dark, grimy and full of menace..."
