We Wish We Hadn't Have Done THIS

n this episode, we we want to tell you about that we wish we hadn't have done this!

Hello and welcome back! In May of 2022 we sold our home in Denver and most everything we own to move onto our 36 acre homestead property in the mountains of SE Arizona. Follow along as we build our hyperadobe homestead from scratch!

This is video number 6 in our paddock series and we will show you the roofing and construction we just completed. We've learned a whole lot in the last 3 years while building our off-grid homestead. Doug and I have always had dogs, cats, and chickens, but never goats or livestock guard dogs and this has been a learning process for us. Don't forget to watch to the end of this video for a special surprise!

We decided to build a "corridor" starting in September 2024 that is part of our animal paddock and attached to our hyperadobe chicken coop for many reasons. We wanted to have this be on the shadier, more protected side of the coop for:

*Shade
*Rainwater collection
*Wind block
*Nurser for baby animals
*Milking area for hte goats
*An outdoor chicken run
*Separating our animals
*Rainwater catchment

The tools we used for this project were:

*Wood
*Metal Roofing
*Gutters
*Gutter flashing
*Tool used; Sawzall, drill, hammer, level, tape measure, circular saw

Our biggest homestead mistake so far was getting animals too soon. We really should have waited until we had more infrastructure. Our thoughts around getting animals in the beginning were:

*We wanted sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, pigs FOR
*Food security
*Raising our own clean food
*Convenience of having food on our property
