Eglinton Crosstown (Line 5) Opening Day Ride — Toronto’s Newest Transit Line
After 15 years of waiting, Toronto’s long-anticipated Eglinton Crosstown LRT (Line 5) is finally open—and this is opening day.
In this video, I start my journey by transferring from Line 1 at Eglinton Station, then board the brand-new Line 5 train for a full westbound ride to Mount Dennis Station. We pass through multiple stations along Eglinton Avenue, experiencing the line as everyday riders see it on day one. Once we reach Mount Dennis, we step off to explore the station and take a closer look at the western terminus.
This is more than just a transit ride—it’s a moment many Torontonians thought might never arrive. The 19-kilometre Line 5, stretching from Mount Dennis to Kennedy Station with 25 stops, includes long underground sections between Keele and Laird, plus at-grade running through the heart of the city. It connects with subway lines, GO Transit, TTC buses, and the UP Express, reshaping how Toronto moves east to west.
Opening day rides are free, the stations are buzzing, and the atmosphere feels historic. After years of delays, construction challenges, and debate, Toronto finally welcomes Line 5 into service—and this video captures what that first day actually felt like.
Sit back, ride along, and experience the Eglinton Crosstown LRT as it officially comes to life.
