Code Vein is an action role-playing game set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has been devastated by a mysterious disaster. Players take on the role of a Revenant—an undead human with vampiric abilities who must consume blood to avoid transforming into the Lost, monstrous, mindless creatures driven by bloodlust. The game is set in a fractured world centered around the hidden society of Vein, a last stronghold where Revenants fight to survive using powerful abilities called Blood Codes, which are tied to their memories and combat styles.

The story follows a protagonist who awakens with no memory, joining a group of fellow Revenants to uncover the truth behind the collapse of civilization. They investigate the origin of Blood Beads—a substitute for human blood—while confronting the legacy of Cruz Silva, the former "Queen of the Revenants" whose transformation sparked the apocalypse. The narrative explores themes of identity, sacrifice, and survival, with multiple endings based on the player’s choices, particularly regarding the fate of the Successors—individuals who carry fragments of the Queen’s power.
