Record Breaking Gas Prices Make You Say "WOW"

It’s a harsh times coming for those driving gas powered vehicles as gas prices in Metro Vancouver hit another record high. This record high is not just in the region, but all of North America. Earlier on the morning of April 14th, a number of gas stations across BC’s Lower Mainland showed prices of 168.9 cents/litre, that is the equivalent to nearly $6.40 for one imperial (U.S) gallon of regular gasoline. Not only is it another record high for British Columbia but an all-time high for gasoline prices across all of Canada, and the continent. Some say the skyrocketing prices are due to supply shortages which others believe it is the addition of “carbon tax”. This tax is intended to help in reducing greenhouse gases by hoping users will reduce usage. To reduce the tax paid by individuals or companies there are a couple ways to accomplish this. This means driving less, turning down the temperature in ones home that uses a natural gas or oil fired furnace. Along with Vancouver, it is expected the rest of Canada will see some price spikes in the near future. The videographer here took some time and made a stop at one of his local gas stations to get the opinion of a customer. Driving a small compact vehicle use to mean saving money on fuel, it still does, but when prices skyrocket, the savings do not seem as sweet. Along with gasoline prices rising, diesel as well has increased. Costing around $1.40 for one litre of diesel, Brent the videographer whom drives a Dodge Ram 3500 diesel pickup truck, mentioned “ when I first bought my truck I recall paying 65 cents per litre. It’s a long way from that now.” He also mentioned usually going across into Washington State to fill his truck as it is close and saves over $40 per fill. Even though local residents are not happy with these price hikes, as the lady filling her mini said” there’s no use getting angry about it, the government always does what they want it seems.”
