Montreal Activists Protest Slaughterhouse
Local activists protest a slaughterhouse in St-Esprit
Liberation Movement, a grassroots animal rights organization, has been pulling together vigils at slaughterhouses across Quebec. St-Esprit’s slaughterhouse is one of the largest. It has been reported as having the processing capacity of 40,000 pigs/week. Recent investments totalling 25 million have expanded the facility and included a new refrigeration room for chilled pork. According to Eyes on Animals, an organization operating across Europe, reports have come in from St Esprit’s truck drivers of negligence during transportation. Lesions, bruising, or necrosis you see in the footage taken by the activists, on parts of the pig like their nose and legs, are not typical of healthy pigs.
