N.Y. Gov. Andrew Cuomo about stimulus bill: 'I find it reckless'
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said Thursday that the stimulus bill passed by the Senate to aid Americans during the coronavirus crisis does not do enough for states.
"I'm disappointed," he said. "I find it irresponsible. I find it reckless."
The Senate on Wednesday passed a $2.2 trillion emergency coronavirus aid package, providing relief to families, workers and businesses struggling amid the coronavirus pandemic. The relief package provides New York state with $5 billion to address the economic fallout from the pandemic. New York has already spent $1 billion to respond to the deadly outbreak, Cuomo said.
Cuomo said that's not enough to address the state's losses which he estimates are $10 to $15 billion.
"The congressional action, in my opinion, simply failed to address the governmental need," he said.
New York state, one of the nation's hardest hit from the pandemic, has 37,250 cases of coronavirus and more than 380 deaths.
