Do you know the difference between Chinese characters and English words? An English word is based on an alphabet, which consists of a small number of letters, and the letters represent sounds but do not have any meaning by themselves. A Chinese character, on the other hand, is a more complex unit. It contains an indication of its pronunciation as well as its meaning.
