19 THE TRUTH ABOUT Situational Ethics

• Many of our problems today's tie back to "situational ethics"
• We all used to live by a set of principles
• Some used religion, others defined their own
• If you have a principle of not stealing, then when an opportunity to steal comes up, your principle will outweigh your urge to steal
• People used to have a set of principles - drummed into us by parents, teachers, society
• We've discarded having principles. We now have no principles
• We now just decide in the moment what do to, and we just typically do what best for us in that moment. If we have the opportunity to steal, we steal. If we have the opportunity to cheat, we cheat.
• We all need to get back to each having a set of solid principles
• Let's get principled
• Our kids have been taught that situation ethics is OK
• This makes us inconsistent in our actions
