【66】感染症とは何か - 大橋眞

基本に立ち返って、感染症とは何かということを考えてみました。コロナ騒動の大きな要因として、感染症とは何かという原点の認識が一般的に行き渡っていないことがあるかもしれません。かつては、感染症が病気の大きな部分を占めていました。その時代には、感染症に対する一般的な常識があったかもしれませんが、感染症を一定レベルに抑えることが可能となり、感染症に対する常識が失われていったようです。今回は、PCR法での診断という方法が急に登場して、これまでの症状ベースの診断とのギャップにより、混乱したという面も大きいでしょう。
　感染症の定義に関わる大きな2つの要因として、病原体としての微生物が①伝染性と②病原性の2つの要素を兼ね備えているということがあります。病原体ウイルスをクローン化により単離されたという科学論文は見当たらない上に、PCR法での診断というテクニックにより、感染症の定義が曖昧になったようです。今一度、感染症とは何かということを考え直す必要があります。

I went back to the basics and thought about what an infectious disease is. A major factor in the corona turmoil may be the general lack of awareness of the origin of what an infectious disease is. In the past, infectious diseases were a large part of the disease. At that time, there may have been general common sense about infectious diseases, but it seems that it became possible to control infectious diseases to a certain level, and common sense about infectious diseases was lost. This time, the method of diagnosis by the PCR method suddenly appeared, and it may be confused due to the gap with the conventional symptom-based diagnosis.
Two major factors related to the definition of infectious disease are that microorganisms as pathogens have two elements: (1) infectious and (2) pathogenic. There is no scientific paper that the pathogen virus was isolated by cloning, and the technique of diagnosis by PCR seems to have obscured the definition of infectious disease. Once again, we need to rethink what an infectious disease is.
