今回のウイルスを検出するために、PCR検査が用いられています。PCRは、類似する遺伝子を検出する方法であり、高い感度と特異性を有しています。一見するとPCR検査は、病原体ウイルスを検出する方法として優れた方法のように見えますが、一体どんな問題点があるのでしょうか。
　インフルの検査で用いられる抗原検査は、ウイルスが細胞内で急速に増殖して症状を出すほどの数となったウイルスの抗原を検出します。すなわち、症状と検査結果が陽性になるのが一致しているわけです。検査結果が陽性であれば、病原体ウイルスが増殖していることを示しています。
　これに対して、PCR検査は類似の遺伝子断片を高感度で検出するので、この遺伝子がウイルス由来であったとしても、病原性ウイルスであることを保証するものではありません。今回は、中国の論文におけるウイルスの遺伝子配列と類似の遺伝子を検出しているわけです。中国の論文のウイルスは、単離されたわけではないので、存在も確認されていません。RNAウイルスは変異が多いので、その性状も多種多様である可能性があります。しかしこれまで発表された類似のウイルスで、インフルのような強い病原性のあるものは確認されていません。発熱を起こす程度まで増殖している様子もありません。PCR検査は、ウイルスの病原性とは関係なく検出してしまうので、ただただ類似のウイルスがいるというだけで、陽性の結果が出てしまうのです。
　テレビなどのマスコミで無症状感染者と言っているのは、中国論文のウイルスと類似の遺伝子をもったウイルスを検出したということに過ぎないわけです。病原体ウイルスでないのであれば、健常者を病人として隔離するのはおかしなことです。PCR検査は、このように危険な面があることを理解する必要があります。

Due to the large number of mutations in RNA viruses, their properties can be diverse. However, no similar virus has been published so far that is highly pathogenic, such as influenza. It does not appear to have grown to the point of causing fever. The PCR test detects the virus regardless of its pathogenicity, so just having a similar virus will give a positive result.
The asymptomatic infected person in the media such as TV only detected a virus with a gene similar to the virus in the Chinese paper. If it is not a pathogenic virus, it is strange to isolate a healthy person as a sick person. It is important to understand that PCR testing has these dangerous aspects.
