Does America Have A Role In End Times?

Some have suggested Babylon The Great in Revelations 17 could be speaking of the United States Of America. I wont assume one way or another to know for certain myself but the interesting thing is before the antichrist seems to claim power, this mysterious Babylon The Great must fall

Chapter 17 seems out of chronological order because in previous chapters it speaks of the Beast ruling over the earth, but then in chapter 17 it describes how the Beast finally comes to power- by the means of Babylon the Great falling-

Then the angel said to me, “The waters you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages. The beast and the ten horns you saw will hate the prostitute. They will bring her to ruin and leave her naked; they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire. For God has put it into their hearts to accomplish his purpose by agreeing to hand over to the beast their royal authority, until God’s words are fulfilled. The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth.”
Revelation 17:15-18 -

When it says the ten horns, it is probably referring to nations that collaboratively turn on her and destroy her- and that enabled the rise of antichrist, “For God has put it into their hearts to accomplish his purpose by agreeing to hand over to the beast their royal authority, until God’s words are fulfilled.”

Interesting thing though is Babylon The Great is depicted metaphorically as a woman, and she sits on a scarlet beast- she has influence rule over many nations and peoples- American culture even here in the States is very diverse and America has been referred to the great melting pot- meaning many ethnicities and races make up American culture. America has several subcultures that speak various languages even though most American’s speak English.

Secondly America has international influence over many “peoples, multitudes, nations and languages.”

America has a statue well known as the Statue of Liberty in New York, its interesting because she is nicknamed Lady Liberty, and she stands high but her base is surrounded by water. She has a torch in her hand and a crown on her hand- in the sense of a crown on the head it represents authority and Babylon the Great itself is seeming to rule over the nations until her time of end comes

Ancient Babylon was an actual place and very powerful empire. In the Old Testament God predicted the fall of Babylon- He said,

“”Go down, sit in the dust, Virgin Daughter Babylon; sit on the ground without a throne, queen city of the Babylonians. No more will you be called tender or delicate. Take millstones and grind flour; take off your veil. Lift up your skirts, bare your legs, and wade through the streams. Your nakedness will be exposed and your shame uncovered. I will take vengeance; I will spare no one. ” Our Redeemer —the Lord Almighty is his name — is the Holy One of Israel. “Sit in silence, go into darkness, queen city of the Babylonians; no more will you be called queen of kingdoms. I was angry with my people and desecrated my inheritance; I gave them into your hand, and you showed them no mercy. Even on the aged you laid a very heavy yoke. You said, ‘I am forever — the eternal queen!’ But you did not consider these things or reflect on what might happen. “Now then, listen, you lover of pleasure, lounging in your security and saying to yourself, ‘I am, and there is none besides me. I will never be a widow or suffer the loss of children.’ Both of these will overtake you in a moment, on a single day: loss of children and widowhood. They will come upon you in full measure, in spite of your many sorceries and all your potent spells. You have trusted in your wickedness and have said, ‘No one sees me.’ Your wisdom and knowledge mislead you when you say to yourself, ‘I am, and there is none besides me.’ Disaster will come upon you, and you will not know how to conjure it away. A calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off with a ransom; a catastrophe you cannot foresee will suddenly come upon you.
Isaiah 47:1-11 -

Babylon in this ancient passage was considered a “Queen of kingdoms” and the King of Babylon subjagated many nations under his control.

Babylon is depicted as a self indulgent decadent woman lounging in security thinking no harm can befall her.

Later in Revelations 18 the mystery nation known as Babylon the Great will also seem to collapse and fall just as suddenly and all the nations of the earth will watch in shock

“When the kings of the earth who committed adultery with her and shared her luxury see the smoke of her burning, they will weep and mourn over her. Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off and cry: “‘Woe! Woe to you, great city, you mighty city of Babylon! In one hour your doom has come!’ “The merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her because no one buys their cargoes anymore — cargoes of gold, silver, precious stones and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk and scarlet cloth; every sort of citron wood, and articles of every kind made of ivory, costly wood, bronze, iron and marble; cargoes of cinnamon and spice, of incense, myrrh and frankincense, of wine and olive oil, of fine flour and wheat; cattle and sheep; horses and carriages; and human beings sold as slaves. “They will say, ‘The fruit you longed for is gone from you. All your luxury and splendor have vanished, never to be recovered.’ The merchants who sold these things and gained their wealth from her will stand far off, terrified at her torment. They will weep and mourn and cry out: “‘Woe! Woe to you, great city, dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet, and glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls! In one hour such great wealth has been brought to ruin!’ “Every sea captain, and all who travel by ship, the sailors, and all who earn their living from the sea, will stand far off. When they see the smoke of her burning, they will exclaim, ‘Was there ever a city like this great city?’ They will throw dust on their heads, and with weeping and mourning cry out: “‘Woe! Woe to you, great city, where all who had ships on the sea became rich through her wealth! In one hour she has been brought to ruin!’ “Rejoice over her, you heavens! Rejoice, you people of God! Rejoice, apostles and prophets! For God has judged her with the judgment she imposed on you.”
Revelation 18:9-20 -

The people of the earth seem to be sad to some degree she is gone because they no longer have a buyer for international goods or imports. Strangely enough America buys most in imports and exporting goods is not one of our strong suits. Yet in this case of this mystery nation, the other nations mourn she is no more and

In “One hour” this Great Babylon is obliterated and goes up in smoke.

The Scarlet Beast Babylon rode on was mentioned as being a nation that was, that is no more- but will come back again. Yet many think that Rome fits this description. Yet we may ask, what does our country have to do with Rome? Interestingly not much aside from the fact ancient Rome was were the US got many of it’s ideas likely about Democracy - Rome in the early years was known to be a Republic, and actually had governing bodies and one was referred to as a Senate. Later Rome became a dicatorship really and was rules by emporers. Yet many American concepts are not new but some actually were incorporated in the Republic of Rome.

So to sit on the Scarlet Beast- if the beast represented Rome of old- we could maybe conclude America had many ideas that the early Republic of Rome first came up with. Romans at one time could elect their governing body members before Caesars became the decisive power.

This is a theory I suppose, yet like the passage says, The Mystery of Babylon the Great- only God truly knows.
