In this video me and my friend Zach discuss some verses in the bible (1 Peter 2:24, 2 Cor 5:21, Isaiah 53:6) that are used as proof texts to try and prove penal substitutionary atonement. These verses are used to support the idea that Jesus paid our sin debt and that all of the sins of mankind from the past, present and future were literally laid upon Christ when he was on the cross. This theological view of the atonement can also lead to heresies like hypergrace and antinomianism because it causes many Christians to think that all of their future sins have already been forgiven and they are free to live however they want because of what took place at the cross.
