Ames monument, Wyoming's Pyramid

This is the second time I've visited Ames Monument, it feels very out of place in the middle of nowhere. It's hard to comprehend how people who lived in meager wooden homes, could construct such a large structure, for the sole purpose of commemoration.

It is said to have been built between 1880 to 1882, and is 60 feet high.
