Li Nanyang is daughter of Li Rui, former personal secretary of Mao Zedong. In his later years, Li Rui became a vocal advocate of democratic reform in China. Li Nanyang spent 40 years in China; then 30 years in U.S. After the 2020 US Election, she wrote an article titled “America’s 2021 and China’s 1949”. In the article she wrote: ”I sincerely hope that America’s 2021 does not become China’s 1949.” What does she mean?
