TIME TO TAP THE MAPLES - Drilling and tapping trees for Maple Syrup

Working with my son, who is just finishing his degree in Forestry, we tap maple trees on our property to make maple syrup. It's a family affair and we love the end result. When tapping Maples you want to look for live tops and drill your holes on the south side of the tree. We have also found that it pays to buy taps as opposed to fashioning taps from copper pipes.
