On the Road to Emmaus - April 11, 2021

As we saw last week, Jesus’ disciples had misunderstood the ministry of Jesus. They did not expect him to die, and when he was crucified, they never expected him to rise from the dead. The Jewish religious leaders who had plotted Jesus’ death had a better memory of Jesus’ comments about his resurrection than the disciples. This story begins with two disciples of Jesus heading home in an attitude of defeat and discouragement, summarized in the words, “we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel”. Fortunately, it doesn’t end there.
