Here’s why you should not punch in a street fight. First off, when you make a closed fist with your hands and a hit a solid surface such as the head of your opponent, you can easily break them.

It’s preferable to hit hard surfaces with an open hand, such as a palm strike.

It’s OK to punch the body of your attacker with a closed fist, since it’s a soft area, but if you’re aiming for the head opt for a solid palm strike instead. It will be much more effective for self-defense.
