After speaking at the September 2014 Conservative Black Summit in Washington, D.C. about THE FUTURE OF THE PRO-LIFE MOVEMENT, I was asked by the Republican National Committee (RNC) to do a promotional piece on video.

I understand the Republican Party was founded by Anti-Slavery activists in 1854 and famously led by Abraham Lincoln, who served as President of the United States of America from 1861 to 1865. At that time the United States was at a breaking point between a Democratic Party that was embraced by the Ku Klux Klan and fond of the status quo, the Republican Party that wanted America to stand up for Human Rights.

I also understand in the 1800s Republicans were considered the liberals of their time. After all, the Party of Lincoln embraced biblical values, limited government, free markets and the rights of human beings. Essentially, the Republican Party of Abraham Lincoln promoted the individual freedoms of all men as well as the rights for all to vote and receive a public education. The Democrats, at the time, spoke of social progression, but did not act on it.

I understand it was the Republican Party of Abraham Lincoln was the catalyst to the American Reconstruction Era (http://bit.ly/1DBv2B9) following the Civil War. During this time the first Black Americans to serve in the United States Congress were Republicans elected during the Reconstruction Era (http://bit.ly/1ouTYqG). After slaves were emancipated and granted citizenship rights, freedmen gained political representation in the Southern United States for the first time. This is why Frederick Douglass said: "I am a Republican, a black, dyed in the wool Republican, and I never intend to belong to any other party than the party of freedom and progress."

There is no question in my mind that so much has changed one hundred and fifty (150) plus years later.

While White Democrats eventually regained political power in state legislatures across the South and worked to restore white supremacy, the Republican Party of Abraham Lincoln began to change.

In my opinion the heart of Democratic Party has not changed since it's working relationship with Ku Klux Klan so very well documented in the thirteen (13) volume collection of reports and testimonies from a United States Congressional committee (http://bit.ly/1sUSHF7) that investigated the Ku Klux Klan and other insurrectionary movements in the former Confederacy after the close of the Civil War.

However, it is also my opinion that Republican Party of Abraham Lincoln stood tallest when fighting to end slavery.

Hi, my name is Walter Hoye. Like Frederick Douglass, I too believe the Party of Lincoln is the party of freedom and progress. For me the Republican Party makes this clear by boldly embracing God in its platform and by wholeheartedly fighting for the sanctity and dignity of human life. To make this point, let me quote directly from the party platform: "Faithful to the self-evident truths enshrined in the declaration of independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment, or in my terms a 'PERSONHOOD' amendment, to the constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the 14th amendment protections apply to the unborn child." Frederick Douglass was right, the Party of Lincoln is the party of freedom and progress for all.
