The Mzora cromlech

The Mzora cromlech is a tumulus with an elliptical megalithic enclosure. The tumulus measures 58 meters in east-west diameter and 54 meters in north-south diameter. At its highest point, it is 6 meters high and is bounded at its base by a small retaining wall. A set of 167 megaliths of varying size surrounds the tumulus. The most imposing megaliths are located to the north of the cromlech but the most imposing is 5 meters in height and is located to the west of the site. It is known under the name of el outed (the stake in Arabic), term by which also designates the premises of the whole site. The majority of the megaliths are marked with notches transformed by the Catalan archaeologist Miquel Tarradell as of anthropogenic origin. The characteristics of the M'zora cromlech make it unique in North Africa.
